How to Get to Altus Plateau

Two reliable routes into Altus: the Grand Lift of Dectus (medallion halves) or the Ruin-Strewn Precipice dungeon climb. Pick one, grab the map fragment, then prep for the capital approach.

How to get to Altus Plateau Elden Ring Dectus medallion guide cover

Which Route Should You Take?

RouteBest if…Tradeoff
Grand Lift of DectusYou want a fast, clear elevator entranceNeed both medallion halves first
Ruin-Strewn PrecipiceYou are stuck without medallions or want dungeon lootLonger climb + boss fight at the top

Many players head here after Radahn / Nokron, but Altus does not require Radahn. You can push earlier if geared.

Route A — Grand Lift of Dectus

  1. Dectus Medallion (Left): Fort Haight in East Limgrave (tower chest).
  2. Dectus Medallion (Right): Fort Faroth in Caelid (tower chest — expect dragons / birds nearby).
  3. Travel to the Grand Lift of Dectus at the north end of Liurnia.
  4. Stand on the lift platform and use the medallion action to ascend into Altus.

Fort Faroth is in scarlet-rot Caelid — bring cures from the Caelid survival guide if you have not cleared that edge yet.

Route B — Ruin-Strewn Precipice

  1. From northern Liurnia, enter the Ruin-Strewn Precipice cave / cliff dungeon (near the ravine toward the lift area).
  2. Climb through the vertical dungeon — watch for Magma Wyrms and long falls.
  3. Defeat the boss at the top to open the path onto Altus Plateau.
  4. Rest at the new Site of Grace and continue east / northeast toward the plateau roads.

First Things After Arriving

  • Grab the Altus map fragment on the roadside pillar.
  • Unlock nearby Graces so deaths are cheap.
  • Push weapon upgrades toward capital comfort — see smithing stones and the power targets in after Radahn.
  • Refresh talismans / Ashes of War before Leyndell-tier fights.
  • Optional: continue Ranni in parallel — Altus is not a quest lock.
